Bengaluru Hotels Association Urges Govt Support, Warns of Early Closures

Bengaluru, March 9, KNT: The Bangalore Hotels Association has urged the Karnataka government to declare the hotel industry as an essential service, citing growing economic pressure on the hospitality sector amid global uncertainties, including the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
In a press statement issued on Monday, the association said hotels and restaurants in the city are facing operational challenges and warned that a large number of establishments could be forced to scale down operations if immediate support measures are not introduced.
The appeal comes at a time when global instability and disruptions linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict have begun affecting travel patterns, supply chains and hospitality businesses in several regions, including India.
According to the association, thousands of workers dependent on the hotel and restaurant sector could be affected if the current situation continues.
Representatives of the association said the hospitality industry plays a key role in supporting tourism, local employment and allied businesses and therefore requires policy attention during periods of economic uncertainty.
They said nearly 70 percent of hotels and restaurants are experiencing operational stress, which could lead to closures if the sector does not receive timely support from authorities.
The association also warned that several hotel owners may begin limiting operating hours and closing establishments earlier in the evening as a protest if their concerns remain unaddressed.
Industry representatives said such steps are being considered to draw attention to the financial pressure faced by hotel operators and workers linked to the sector.
They urged the Karnataka government to hold consultations with industry stakeholders and introduce measures that would help sustain the hospitality sector during the present economic challenges.
The association expressed hope that the government would respond to the concerns and take steps to protect the livelihoods of thousands of workers associated with hotels and restaurants in Bengaluru. [KNT]
