New Delhi, March 15, KNT: The Income Tax Department has issued a clarification after several taxpayers reported receiving emails containing inaccurate information regarding “significant transactions” as part of the ongoing Advance Tax e-Campaign for Assessment Year 2026–27.

In a statement, the department acknowledged that certain communications sent to taxpayers contained incorrect details and advised recipients to ignore the earlier email messages while the issue is being addressed.

The clarification comes after taxpayers raised concerns about discrepancies in emails referencing financial transactions attributed to them under the advance tax campaign.

Officials said the emails were part of a routine compliance initiative aimed at encouraging taxpayers to review their financial records and ensure timely advance tax payments.

However, the department said that due to an error in the communication process, some of the messages included inaccurate transaction details.

“The department thanks taxpayers for bringing this error to our attention and regrets the inconvenience caused,” the statement said.

Authorities said the issue is being addressed in coordination with the service provider responsible for the system.

“In the meantime, taxpayers are requested to kindly ignore the earlier email communication related to the Advance Tax e-Campaign,” the department said.

Officials clarified that the purpose of such communications is to act as a facilitative reminder rather than a notice of violation.

They said the messages are intended to help taxpayers review financial information available with the department and ensure appropriate advance tax compliance where required.

Tax authorities also advised individuals to verify their transaction details directly through the official compliance portal.

According to the department, taxpayers can access the relevant information through the “e-Campaign” tab available on the Income Tax e-Filing portal.

Officials said the system allows taxpayers to check details of transactions reported by financial institutions and reconcile them with their own financial records.

Authorities urged taxpayers to rely only on official channels and to verify information through the government’s e-filing portal before taking any action.

The department also assured that corrective steps are being taken to prevent similar issues in future communications. [KNT]
