Baramulla, April 2, KNT: Baramulla Police on Thursday attached a vehicle allegedly linked to a drug trafficking case as part of its ongoing action against narcotics-related offences in the district, officials said.
The vehicle, an Alto-800 bearing registration number JK05K-7701, was seized in connection with cases registered at Police Station Kunzer under provisions of the NDPS Act and Excise Act.
According to officials, the action was taken during the course of investigation into cases registered as FIR No. 55/2014 under Sections 8/15 of the NDPS Act and 48 of the Excise Act, and FIR No. 74/2024 under Sections 8/18-29 of the NDPS Act.
The development is part of a broader effort by law enforcement agencies to target not only drug trafficking activities but also assets allegedly acquired through illegal proceeds, in a bid to disrupt the financial networks behind narcotics trade.
Police said investigation revealed that the vehicle had been purchased using proceeds from the illicit sale of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
Officials added that the vehicle was registered in the name of a family member to conceal ownership.
The accused, identified as Abdul Ahad Magray, a resident of Sharai in Baramulla, has been named in the cases and is alleged to be involved in repeated instances of drug peddling.
Authorities said the attachment was carried out under legal provisions aimed at depriving accused persons of assets linked to unlawful activities.
Baramulla Police said such measures are intended to curb the spread of drug abuse and dismantle networks operating in the region.
