
Budgam, April 18, KNT: Deputy Commissioner Budgam Athar Amir Khan on Saturday warned of strict action against those involved in drug peddling and poppy cultivation, asserting that no violator will be spared as the administration intensifies its crackdown on narcotics.
He made the remarks while presiding over an awareness programme titled “No to Drugs, Yes to Life” held at Government Higher Secondary School Hardapanzoo in Khansahib under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
The programme was organized by the District Administration Budgam in collaboration with the school, bringing together officials, students, and local residents to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
The event saw participation from SDM Khansahib, Tehsildar Khansahib, Information Officer Budgam, Social Welfare Officer Budgam, Chief Education Officer Budgam, Principal HSS Hardapanzoo, and Zonal Education Officer Hardapanzoo, among others.
The initiative is part of a broader campaign to mobilize community participation and strengthen preventive efforts against drug abuse across the district.
Addressing the gathering, Athar Amir Khan stressed the need for collective action, urging all stakeholders to actively contribute to eradicating the menace of drugs from society.
“No violator will be spared. Strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in drug peddling or poppy cultivation,” he said, emphasizing the administration’s firm stance.
He also called upon religious leaders to use their platforms to spread awareness among youth about the ill effects of drugs and promote a healthy lifestyle.
As part of the programme, students participated in painting competitions and cultural activities, expressing anti-drug messages through art and speeches, reflecting growing awareness among young participants.
The Deputy Commissioner encouraged public participation in the ongoing 100-day awareness campaign being conducted across the district and highlighted measures being undertaken to curb drug abuse.
The programme concluded with participants taking a pledge to support the mission of a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.
