A series of fast-moving developments across the Middle East and other regions marked the past 12 hours, with tensions rising in key geopolitical hotspots including the Strait of Hormuz and southern Lebanon, alongside unrest in parts of India.

In the Gulf, maritime tensions escalated after reports of gunfire in the Strait of Hormuz prompted at least two Indian vessels to reverse course. Iran signaled tighter control over the strategic waterway, linking its status to the continuation of a US-imposed blockade, adding uncertainty to global shipping routes.

In Lebanon, a major security incident unfolded as French peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) came under attack in the south of the country. One soldier was reported killed and others injured, drawing strong condemnation from France and international concern over the safety of UN personnel.

The attack has raised fresh questions about the stability of the fragile ceasefire in the region and the risks faced by peacekeeping forces operating in conflict zones.

Meanwhile, diplomatic tensions also intensified, with India summoning the Iranian Ambassador following the Hormuz incident, signaling growing concern over maritime security and safety of its vessels.

Beyond the Middle East, unrest continued in India’s Manipur state, where fresh violence, protests, and security crackdowns were reported. Authorities maintained restrictions, including internet suspensions, as efforts continued to control the situation.

Global markets reacted cautiously to the developments, with oil prices showing volatility amid fears of disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical energy corridor.

The past 12 hours reflect a convergence of security, diplomatic, and economic pressures across regions, with multiple flashpoints developing simultaneously and contributing to an increasingly uncertain global environment.
