Srinagar, April 21, KNT: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday termed the Pahalgam attack a major setback for Jammu and Kashmir as he paid tribute to those killed in the incident last year.
Speaking to reporters, Abdullah said he wished to pay homage to all those who lost their lives in the April 22, 2025 attack in Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, which left 26 people dead, including 25 tourists and one local civilian.
He said special tribute must be paid to those who stood up against terrorism, emphasizing the need to remember their courage.
The attack, which took place in a popular tourist meadow, had a significant impact on public sentiment and tourism in the region, marking one of the deadliest civilian-targeted incidents in recent years.
Abdullah also commented on international developments, particularly the proposed second round of talks between the United States and Iran. He expressed optimism that sustained dialogue would eventually lead to peace.
“Multiple rounds of talks may take place, but peace will ultimately prevail. The world can only be saved through peace,” he said.

On domestic policy, the National Conference president addressed the Women Reservation Bill, stating that his party is not opposed to reservation.
He recalled that when the bill was introduced in 2023, it was passed with a majority, indicating broad political support.
Abdullah’s remarks come at a time when the anniversary of the Pahalgam attack is being observed, with renewed focus on both security concerns and the broader need for peace and stability. [KNT]
