Nepal’s Home Minister Sudhan Gurung resigned on Wednesday amid growing scrutiny over his share investments, becoming the latest minister in the Rastriya Swatantra Party-led government to step down within weeks of its formation.

Announcing his resignation in a public statement, Gurung said he had taken concerns raised by citizens seriously and decided to step aside to uphold ethical standards in public life.

He said that maintaining public trust was more important than holding office and stressed that leadership must remain accountable.

“For me, ethics carry greater weight than any position, and there is no power greater than public trust,” he said, adding that his decision was aimed at ensuring transparency and avoiding any potential conflict of interest.

Gurung said stepping down would allow a fair and unbiased investigation into the allegations related to his financial dealings.

He also called on citizens, media, and youth to uphold honesty and accountability, emphasizing the need for clean public life.

The resignation comes amid a broader push for accountability within the government. Earlier this month, Labour Minister Deepak Kumar Sah was removed from the cabinet over disciplinary concerns.

The latest development has raised questions about stability within the newly formed government, as multiple ministers have faced scrutiny within a short span.
