Srinagar, May 3, KNT: Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday criticized the government over the reported closure of Sirajul Aloom, saying the institution represented more than just an educational center and its banning was “deeply unfortunate.”

Speaking to reporters in Ganderbal, Mehbooba said Sirajul Aloom “is more than an institution—it’s an emotion,” asserting that its contributions could not be overlooked. She described the action against the institution as unjustified.

The PDP chief also accused the elected government of maintaining what she termed a “criminal silence” on the issue, stating that such silence amounted to tacit approval of the decision.

She further claimed that the closure of Sirajul Aloom was not an isolated instance, referring to the earlier shutdown of Madinatul Uloom and alleging a pattern in actions taken against such institutions.

Mehbooba alleged that the developments reflected a broader political agenda, claiming that such measures were in line with policies associated with the BJP and were being backed by the local government. [KNT]
