Jammu, May 30, KNT: Several Jammu-based organizations have launched a “Spend a Day in Jammu” campaign ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra, seeking to promote the city as a religious and tourist destination and encourage pilgrims to spend more time exploring the region.
The initiative comes amid concerns over comparatively lower religious and tourist footfall in Jammu, with many pilgrims and visitors preferring to proceed directly to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine instead of staying in Jammu city and nearby areas.
As part of the campaign, organizers have released a special poster highlighting Jammu’s major religious, historical and tourist attractions in an effort to showcase the region’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
Members associated with the campaign said the initiative aims to draw attention to Jammu’s tourism potential and encourage travelers to experience local destinations, heritage sites and hospitality.
One member associated with the campaign said that if the “Spend a Day in Jammu” initiative materializes and gains wider public response, it could significantly boost Jammu’s economy and benefit local businesses dependent on pilgrim and tourist activity.
The campaign has also urged the Tourism Department to provide free sightseeing bus services for devotees during the Amarnath Yatra to facilitate travel to important destinations across Jammu.
Organizers believe the initiative could help strengthen Jammu’s tourism profile and increase economic activity during the pilgrimage season. [KNT]
