Srinagar, June 21, KNT: Nearly 50,000 medical aspirants across Jammu and Kashmir appeared in the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination on Sunday amid heightened security arrangements and strict monitoring protocols put in place following the cancellation of the earlier examination. Reports indicated that around 128 examination centres were established across the Union Territory to facilitate candidates.

The re-examination carried enormous significance for thousands of students whose aspirations had been thrown into uncertainty after the earlier test was scrapped. Sunday’s examination was conducted under one of the most stringent security frameworks ever deployed for a national entrance test, with authorities enforcing biometric verification, CCTV surveillance, frisking procedures and multiple layers of monitoring to ensure transparency and prevent malpractice.

Candidates in Jammu and Kashmir appeared at centres spread across major districts, including Srinagar, Jammu, Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Kupwara, Pulwama, Kathua, Samba and Udhampur. Many aspirants had been allotted revised examination centres after the National Testing Agency (NTA) issued fresh admit cards, rendering the previous hall tickets invalid.

In Jammu division alone, more than 13,600 candidates were scheduled to appear at 27 examination centres, prompting elaborate logistical and security arrangements by the authorities.

Candidates were required to report well before the gate-closing deadline, with authorities enforcing strict entry norms. Across the country, entry to examination centres was barred after the stipulated time as officials sought to maintain the sanctity of the test.

Initial feedback from students suggested that the question paper was of moderate difficulty, though detailed subject-wise analysis and official data regarding attendance and performance are awaited.

The examination was conducted in offline mode from 2 PM to 5:15 PM. Nationally, more than 22 lakh candidates appeared for the re-test, which was conducted under close scrutiny following the controversy that led to the cancellation of the previous examination. [KNT]
