Budgam, May 1, KNT: President of J&K Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian Aga Syed Hassan Mosavi Al-Safavi on Friday warned that rising drug abuse in Kashmir is a “silent devastation” threatening the moral and social fabric of society, particularly the youth.
Addressing a congregation at the Markazi Imambara Budgam, Aga Hassan said the growing narcotics menace is not merely a social concern but a deeper crisis impacting the future of an entire generation.
He said the spread of drugs is eroding values and weakening the foundations of society, cautioning that the consequences could be severe if the issue is not addressed with urgency.
While acknowledging recent measures taken by authorities, including action against properties linked to drug peddlers, he described such steps as necessary but insufficient in isolation. He called for a sustained and comprehensive approach to tackle the problem.
Referring to religious teachings, Aga Hassan said intoxicants are explicitly prohibited in Islam and urged people to stay away from substance abuse, describing it as a destructive force.
He said the responsibility to combat the menace extends beyond the government and requires participation from all sections of society. He urged authorities to dismantle drug networks, strengthen monitoring mechanisms, and ensure rehabilitation support for affected individuals.
The cleric also called on parents to remain vigilant about their children and emphasized the role of teachers in guiding youth beyond academics toward responsible conduct.
He urged society to break its silence and actively resist the normalization of drug use, adding that religious scholars must continue to raise awareness and guide people toward constructive paths.
Warning of long-term consequences, Aga Hassan said failure to act decisively could have lasting repercussions, calling for a unified response to address the growing challenge. [KNT]
