BJP MP Backs ‘Tiranga’ Students Amid NIT Srinagar Row
Tarun Vijay Urges Protection for 'Patriotic' Students, Seeks Campus Calm

New Delhi, April 2, KNT: Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Member of Parliament Tarun Vijay on Saturday congratulated what he described as “patriotic students” at National Institute of Technology Srinagar, stating that they had given a befitting response to separatist elements within the campus.
In a statement issued from New Delhi, the BJP MP urged the state government to ensure protection for students who upheld the national flag and called for the restoration of normal academic activity at the institute. He asserted that NIT must remain focused on academic excellence and not allow disruptions that hamper studies. He further remarked that those celebrating India’s defeat had no place in the institution and should leave if they did not align with the national ethos.
According to the statement, Tarun Vijay spoke to Inspector General of Police, Srinagar, Syed Javaid Mujtaba Gillani, appreciating his efforts to restore calm on the campus. He requested that adequate security be ensured so that no harm comes to students identified as patriotic, and that divisive elements are prevented from creating disturbances.
The BJP leader stated that anti-India slogans would not be tolerated in any part of the country and called for prompt and appropriate action against those responsible for raising such slogans.
He also extended congratulations to Mehbooba Mufti on assuming office as the first woman Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. While wishing her government success, he cautioned that certain disgruntled elements were attempting to disturb peace in the Valley. He expressed hope that development and prosperity would prevail and that separatism would be decisively defeated. [KNT]
