Government Should Respect People’s Wishes, Resolve Issues of J&K and Ladakh: Farooq Abdullah

New Delhi, July 19, KNT: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) President Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Sunday visited Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, where protesters were demonstrating over national issues, and expressed hope that the Centre would respect the aspirations of the people and work towards resolving the concerns of both Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
The visit comes a day before the National Conference’s proposed protest in the national capital seeking restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Senior NC leaders have already arrived in Delhi to participate in Monday’s programme.
After meeting the protesters, Dr. Abdullah told reporters, “I hope the government will respect the wishes of the people of this country. I hope they will work for the good of this country and that the problems of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir will be solved.”
He did not elaborate further but reiterated his hope that the Centre would address the concerns of the people through democratic means.
The National Conference is scheduled to hold its own protest at Jantar Mantar on Monday to press for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
