Hot, Dry Weather Likely Across J&K Till June 10; Rain Activity Expected Thereafter

Srinagar, June 7, KNT: Jammu and Kashmir is expected to witness generally hot and dry weather conditions till June 10, although brief afternoon showers at a few places cannot be ruled out, according to the latest weather forecast.

The Meteorological Department has predicted isolated light rain and thundershowers across parts of the Union Territory over the next four days, with no major weather disturbances expected during this period.

Weather observers said daytime temperatures are likely to remain above normal in several areas, particularly in the Jammu region, while the Kashmir Valley is also expected to experience relatively warm conditions.

A change in weather is, however, expected from June 11 onwards.

Forecast models indicate partly to generally cloudy skies between June 11 and June 14, accompanied by light rain, brief intense showers, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at scattered to many places across Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, isolated light rain and thundershowers may occur during the next 24 hours, while similar conditions are expected to continue over the subsequent two days.

During the past 24 hours, light rain was reported from a few places. Srinagar recorded the highest maximum temperature in Kashmir division at 27.9 degrees Celsius, while Kathua registered 40.2 degrees Celsius in Jammu division.

The minimum temperature in the Valley remained below normal at several locations, with Pahalgam recording 6.8 degrees Celsius.

Authorities have advised residents, farmers and travelers to remain updated with weather forecasts, particularly from June 11 onward when thunder, lightning and gusty winds are expected to affect several areas. [KNT]
