Srinagar, April 22, KNT: The district administrations of Kupwara and Anantnag have announced civil defence air raid and blackout mock drills as part of district-wide emergency preparedness and safety training, with authorities issuing detailed advisories for the public.
According to official notices, the Kupwara administration will conduct the exercise on April 24, with a drill scheduled at 3:30 PM followed by a blackout exercise from 8:00 PM to 8:10 PM.
In Anantnag, the mock drill will be held on April 23, with a daytime exercise at 3:30 PM and a blackout scheduled from 8:00 PM to 8:10 PM.
Officials said the exercises aim to familiarize citizens with emergency response protocols during blackout or crisis situations and to assess the preparedness of both the public and the administration.
Authorities have advised residents in both districts to strictly follow instructions during the blackout period, including switching off all lights and sources of illumination such as inverters, solar lights, mobile lights, and vehicle lights immediately after the siren sounds.
People have also been asked to draw curtains or cover windows to prevent light emission and to take care of elderly persons, children, and individuals with health concerns to avoid distress.
The administrations emphasized that all emergency and critical care services will remain functional during the exercise.
Officials reiterated that the drill is only a mock exercise and urged the public not to panic, stressing that cooperation is essential for the successful conduct of the preparedness activity.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance readiness and ensure a coordinated response in case of emergencies. [KNT]
