More Than 2.16 Lakh Awareness Events Held Across Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, May 10, KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Saturday said the ongoing 100-day anti-drug campaign has recorded large-scale public participation and intensified enforcement action across the Union Territory, with more than one crore people participating in awareness activities conducted during the drive.

According to official figures, a total of 2,16,123 awareness events have been organized across Jammu and Kashmir since the launch of the campaign.

The administration said the outreach programmes included public walks, school and college events, village-level campaigns, youth engagement programmes, seminars, rallies, sports activities, cultural events and community interaction initiatives aimed at spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse.

Officials said the campaign was being implemented through coordination among departments including Health, Social Welfare, Information, Police, Education and other agencies.

The administration stated that counseling and mental health support systems had also been strengthened during the campaign period.

According to official figures, the Tele-MANAS counseling initiative received 2,786 calls related to mental health and addiction support.

Authorities said treatment and rehabilitation services were expanded through Addiction Treatment Facilities operated by the Health Department.

Official data stated that 44,602 patients received treatment during the campaign period, including 44,263 out-patient cases and 339 indoor admissions.

The administration further stated that 148 patients had completed treatment and were discharged after recovery.

Officials said rehabilitation centres operated by the Social Welfare Department received 441 patients, while 742 individuals underwent counseling sessions.

According to official figures, 18 persons completed rehabilitation and recovery programmes through these centres.

Police-operated de-addiction and counseling centres also registered 451 patients, while 786 individuals underwent counseling and 138 persons reportedly recovered successfully.

The administration said law enforcement agencies had intensified anti-narcotics operations under the NDPS Act during the campaign.

Official figures stated that 614 FIRs had been registered, 646 persons arrested and 435 alleged drug peddlers apprehended so far.

Authorities also identified 160 locations described as drug hotspots across Jammu and Kashmir.

As part of enforcement action, officials said 37 houses allegedly linked to drug peddlers had been sealed or demolished.

According to the administration, immovable properties worth approximately Rs 25.97 crore had been seized or attached, while additional properties worth around Rs 3.70 crore were demolished.

Authorities also stated that movable assets worth Rs 1.67 crore had been seized during the anti-drug operations.

The administration further said action had been taken against misuse of transport and pharmaceutical channels allegedly linked to narcotics activities.

Official figures showed that 252 driving licenses and 111 vehicle registrations had been cancelled during the campaign.

Authorities also suspended 104 drug store licenses and cancelled two additional licenses for alleged legal violations.

During the campaign period, enforcement agencies seized various narcotic substances including 3.8 kilograms of heroin, 32.92 kilograms of charas and 222.31 kilograms of ganja.

Officials also stated that illegal poppy cultivation spread over 21 marlas of land had been destroyed.

According to the administration, preventive surveillance measures were expanded in vulnerable areas during the campaign.

Authorities said 3,067 chemist shops had been inspected, while 2,815 CCTV cameras were installed at vulnerable locations.

Officials added that 977 schools and hospitals were also checked as part of preventive monitoring efforts.

The administration further stated that intelligence-based operations were continuing, with law enforcement agencies examining 107 suspects and identifying 2,807 alleged drug peddlers during the campaign period.

Authorities also confirmed that 11 PIT-NDPS detentions had been carried out under preventive detention laws as part of anti-narcotics measures across Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
