Jammu, March 26, KNT: Director Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Jammu, Rifat Kohli on Thursday clarified that there is no shortage of LPG in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that sufficient stock is available across the Union Territory.

The clarification comes amid circulating rumours suggesting a shortage of LPG and confusion over refilling timelines, prompting concern among consumers in Jammu region.

Kohli said that around 15 days of LPG stock is currently available, which is adequate to meet the demand, and there is no need for panic buying or hoarding.

“There is no shortage of LPG anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir. People should not panic or rush to stock cylinders unnecessarily,” he said.

Addressing misinformation, the Director said that reports claiming a 35-day mandatory gap for refilling are incorrect. He clarified that the prescribed refilling period is 25 days for urban areas and 45 days for rural areas.

She said that the department is closely monitoring supply and distribution to ensure smooth availability of LPG cylinders across districts.

Kohli also stressed the importance of completing eKYC, stating that it has been made mandatory for consumers to streamline distribution and prevent misuse.

“Consumers must complete their eKYC and ensure that they share the OTP at the time of cylinder delivery to avoid any inconvenience,” he said.

He further added that there are no reports of hoarding from any part of the Union Territory, and supply chains remain intact.

The Director also informed that consumers can avail home delivery services conveniently by giving a missed call to the designated LPG service numbers.

LPG is a primary cooking fuel for a majority of households across Jammu and Kashmir, making uninterrupted supply critical for daily life. Rumours about shortages often lead to sudden spikes in demand, disrupting normal distribution patterns.

The Director reiterated that the situation remains stable and appealed to the public to rely only on official communication for updates. [KNT]
