Srinagar, April 22, KNT: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo on Wednesday urged people to adopt rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Muft Bijli Yojana, saying the initiative is already benefiting thousands of households in the district.
Speaking to reporters, Labroo said around 5,000 consumers in Srinagar have installed rooftop solar panels and are witnessing a significant reduction in their electricity bills.
He said the scheme not only helps households cut costs but also contributes positively to the environment by promoting clean energy.
Citing an example, the Deputy Commissioner said a consumer whose monthly electricity bill was around ₹1,500 is now paying nearly ₹400 after installing rooftop solar panels.
Labroo assured residents that the district administration is fully committed to facilitating smooth installation and addressing any issues faced by consumers.
“I assure you there will be no problem in installation. Even if you want a loan from banks, the district administration will coordinate with the banks for your sake,” he said.
He added that the scheme is voluntary in nature and the administration’s role is to create awareness so that people can take maximum benefit.
He said teams of the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) are actively assisting consumers and ensuring that installations are carried out without inconvenience.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to residents to come forward and avail the benefits of the scheme, emphasizing that it offers both financial savings and environmental advantages. [KNT]
