Search Operation Continues in Shopian, No Fresh Exchange of Fire
Shopian, July 5, KNT: Security forces on Sunday continued an intensive search operation in the Chanpora and adjacent areas of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, where an exchange of fire had taken place during the initial phase of the operation on Saturday.
Officials said no fresh gunfire has been reported since Saturday evening, although the search operation remains underway to trace the suspected militants believed to be hiding in the area.
The operation was launched after security agencies received specific intelligence inputs about the presence and movement of suspected militants in Chanpora, following which the area was cordoned off by joint forces.
Police, Army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are jointly conducting the operation, with advanced surveillance equipment, including drones and sniffer dogs, being pressed into service to assist the searches.
Security forces are carrying out systematic searches of the area, while additional reinforcements remain deployed to prevent any escape from the cordoned locality. [KNT]
