Srinagar, June 7, KNT: Customers using Jammu and Kashmir Bank ATMs have urged the bank authorities to review the loudspeaker-based warning system installed inside ATM kiosks, alleging that the repeated announcements have become a source of irritation rather than convenience.
The complaints relate to a recorded message that repeatedly warns customers against entering ATM cabins while wearing helmets. According to users, the announcement is broadcast continuously throughout the day at a high volume.
Many customers said the message echoes repeatedly inside small ATM enclosures, making the experience uncomfortable, particularly for elderly persons and those spending several minutes inside the kiosk to complete transactions.
“The announcement keeps repeating every few moments. We understand the security purpose behind it, but the volume and frequency are excessive,” a customer told KNT.
Another user said the constant audio warning creates unnecessary disturbance and often distracts customers while carrying out banking transactions.
Customers acknowledged that preventing helmeted entry into ATMs may be an important security measure, but argued that warning notices displayed at ATM entrances are sufficient to convey the message.
Several users appealed to the bank management to either reduce the volume, decrease the frequency of the announcements or discontinue the loudspeaker system altogether.
They said security measures should not come at the cost of customer comfort and convenience. [KNT]
