Ayodhya, April 25, KNT: Authorities in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya have busted a counterfeit edible oil racket, seizing more than 500 crates of fake “Fortune” refined oil in what officials described as a major crackdown on food adulteration and brand fraud.
The operation uncovered large quantities of oil packaged in counterfeit containers closely resembling the popular “Fortune” brand, with officials noting that the imitation packaging was so precise it was nearly indistinguishable from genuine products.
The development assumes significance as the seized products were allegedly intended for distribution in local markets, raising serious concerns over consumer safety and the integrity of branded food supply chains.
Officials involved in the raid said the counterfeit operation had replicated branding elements, including labels, colors, and packaging design, making it difficult for consumers and retailers to identify the fake products.
No immediate official statement detailed the exact location of the manufacturing or packaging unit, but authorities confirmed that further investigation is underway to identify those involved in the production and distribution network.
The seizure highlights the growing challenge of counterfeit food products in the market, particularly those imitating established brands to gain consumer trust.
Authorities are expected to conduct further inspections and trace the supply chain to prevent the circulation of adulterated edible oil in the region. [KNT]
