Jammu, April 22, KNT: Workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress came face to face in Jammu on Wednesday during protests over the Women’s Reservation issue, with both sides exchanging sharp allegations.
The confrontation led to heightened tensions on the ground, prompting police to deploy barricades to prevent escalation and maintain order.
Congress workers alleged that the BJP was misleading people, stating that the Women’s Reservation Bill had already been passed in 2023, and that the issue being raised now was being misrepresented.
They claimed that the legislation that did not move forward was related to delimitation, and not reservation for women.
BJP protesters, on the other hand, accused the Congress of hurting the sentiments of women and opposing measures aimed at enhancing women’s representation.
Slogans were raised by both groups as they staged protests, leading to a tense situation before police intervened to keep the two sides apart. [KNT]
