Budgam, April 24, KNT: Police in Budgam recovered a significant quantity of contraband substance from a residential house in the Choudhary Bagh Subden area and arrested one individual during a search operation, officials said on Friday.

The action was carried out following specific information about the presence of narcotic substances allegedly intended for distribution among local youth. A police team from Police Post Soibugh conducted the raid at the identified location in the presence of independent witnesses.

During the search, approximately 2.713 kilograms of charas, described as a powder-like substance, was recovered from the premises.

The accused has been identified as Hilal Ahmad Sheikh, son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Choudhary Bagh Subden in Budgam. He was apprehended on the spot.

Police said a case under FIR No. 98/2026 has been registered at Police Station Budgam under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, and further investigation into the matter is underway.

The recovery is part of an ongoing enforcement effort targeting drug distribution networks at the local level. Officials said such operations are aimed at curbing the availability of narcotics and reducing their spread within communities.

Authorities also urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and share any information related to drug-related activities. [KNT]
